John Harry Douglas Sturgess
(October 18, 1936 – June 11, 2017)
John Harry Douglas Sturgess was born in 1936, married his childhood sweetheart, Mary, and immigrated to Canada in 1957 to seek their fortunes. John had a 35 year career with the Canadian National Railway, working his way up from Surveyor to Senior Vice President, Chief Operating Officer. John passed away peacefully in Penticton, BC, surrounded by his family. Above all a family man, John is survived by his four children, Jeremy, Teresa, Matthew, Daniel, their partners, seven grandchildren, and his youngest brother, Robert Sturgess. John was an engineer at heart and by trade: a great renovator of homes and maker of fences, decks, toys, furniture, forts, and gardens. Practical, intelligent, optimistic, generous, stubborn, sentimental, and wise, John was the best of men.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Parkinson Canada in memory of John are welcome: http://www.parkinson.ca/site/c.kgLNIWODKpF/b.5842619/k.8922/Parkinson_Canada/apps/s/custom.asp
