Beth West Obituary

Beth Anne West, aged 66, passed away early January
19th, 2020 due to natural causes in Penticton, BC.  She was born October 13, 1953 in Welland Ontario to Ronald Austin West and Norma Shirley Wright. She was married to Russell Norman Metro on May 7th, 1983 in Edmonton Alberta, who survives her.

Beth Anne was a natural beauty. She was kind, generous
and loved to laugh. She was an easy baby, and her mother described her as full of joy. She loved being outdoors, and as a child, would catch pollywogs, toads, insects and butterflies with her siblings.  She loved to swim; enjoyed the summer and her siblings;
and loved to have snowball fights and build snow forts in the winter time in Ontario. She was a good student, with a gifted mind, and was committed to life-long learning.  She was incredibly social and had many friends; people were attracted to her easy going
nature. She was a talented gymnast in her younger days, a gifted golfer and competitive chess player.

In 1971 Beth Anne put herself through school in Toronto
to become a Registered Practical Nurse. She continued to be passionate within the health-care field in Ontario, Alberta and finally in British Columbia. She was a worldly woman and loved to travel. She lived in New Zealand and all over Canada for many years
prior to settling in the Okanagan with her young family in 1991. Beth Anne touched many lives while working as a nurse; she was gentle and loving with those she took care of, and gave above and beyond care and attention to those she gracefully served.

 Beth Anne was an outstanding union shop steward, and was devoted to serving and protecting her colleagues and friends. She was a champion of fairness and bravely defended quiet voices, encouraging and empowering all those around her. Her motto:

“Never give up, never give in and never quit.”

 She was a generous, compassionate, empathetic, outgoing, quirky woman who always had stories to tell, and an ear to lend.  She loved the Beatles, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Marianne Faithfull and the Wizard of Oz. She did not conform to conventional standards, and all who knew her would agree that the mold was broken the day she was born.

Beth Anne’s final years were spent enjoying the Okanagan sunshine walking her two black multipool dogs and watching them play at the beach; they were just part of the Penticton scenery-ubiquitous in nature-everyone knew Beth and her puppies. She could also be found caring for and spending time with her children, grandchildren and close friends at the park.

Beth Anne is survived by four loving children: Cindy, Trisha, Jesse and Katrina; a sister Lauri; Brother Bobby and father Ron.  She also has two lovely young grandchildren, Channing and Lincoln, two fur babies, Suess Mateus and Jumper Bean, a devoted partner Marty, and many dear, dear friends. She was a tiny woman who made a gigantic impact; never to be forgotten and always to be held close and with the utmost respect and affection in our memories and hearts. We are grateful for the gift you gave each of us, and the time you allowed us to have with you. We love you, we miss you, and we will see you.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
