Personalized Monuments

Cemetery Monuments have been around for centuries. They are structures explicitly created to commemorate the dead. They are located above or near the grave site. They memorialize the lives and history of the past for future generations. Monuments may be ornate or simple and depend on the desire of each individual.

Some of the more elaborate and enduring monuments that come to mind are the pyramids in Egypt; and, the Canadian National Vimy Memorial site in France which is dedicated to the memory of Canadian Expeditionary Force members killed during the First World War. It also serves as the place of commemoration for First World War Canadian soldiers killed or presumed dead in France, that have no known grave. .

Today Cemetery Monuments are constructed mainly from granite or bronze:

  • Granite memorials are durable. They are available in various colors, shapes and designs to allow families to personalize the memorial.

  • Bronze markers are made of metal alloy. They are durable; however, the color selection is not as diversified as granite. Bronze memorials must be attached to a granite or concrete base.
