Darrel was born in Sexsmith, AB, but his parents Rachel (Brown) and Roy Tink moved to Clairmont, AB shortly after his birth. Darrel fondly remembered his childhood years in this small, close-knit community. Many stories were told about his friends and their antics. During his teen years, he worked at the Grande Prairie Auction Mart which his father owned. The life lessons he learned there contributed to his success in business.
After high school, Darrel moved to Grande Prairie for 2 years, then headed south to Calgary. While working in High River, he met Colleen and they married on July 1, 1978. Darrel always arranged fireworks for their anniversary. During this time he began his business career, starting an insulation company.
Darrel and Colleen moved to Yorkton, SK for a few years, then returned to Grande Prairie to be with family and friends. He purchased Modern Decore and enjoyed the challenges of business until he retired in 2007 at the age of 55. During this time, he also delighted in the birth of his daughter, Rachelle, his sunshine.
Darrel enjoyed his retirement in Summerland, BC. Golfing became a passion. Every summer, he looked forward to the many family and friends who came to enjoy the lake with him. In the last few months of his life, Darrel did ‘smell the roses’ and loved sitting on the deck with the sunshine warming his face.
Family and friends will remember Darrel for his humor, his honesty and integrity, his astute business sense, and his appreciation of a good time. He saw the good in people and often helped others when they needed a second chance.
Surviving Darrel are his wife Colleen, his daughter Rachelle, and his siblings Bryan , Gwen, Marlene, and Dennis.
