With heavy hearts we announce that George passed away quickly in his own home at the age of 77 years on the morning of February 8, 2018. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his sons, Grant (Petra) and Todd (Joanne) Mason; his grandchildren, Samuel and Alixandria; his brothers, Ralph (Sharon), Bob (Margaret), and Don (Leah) Mason; as well as his mother, Ida Mason; and his special love, Jean. George was sadly predeceased by his father, Ralph Mason.
George was an outdoor enthusiast, and by trade worked as a mining consultant. His career accomplishments were varied, but most recently his mining adventures (Aurogenesis) have proven to be a true once in a lifetime success. His passion for geology led him on a life long educational pursuit to learn as much as he could about the earth sciences. The spell of the Yukon and its treasures had captured his heart. It was one of his favourite places where he found serenity and excitement at once. Family and friends fondly recall George as a beautiful dreamer who liked to reinvent the wheel. He truly marched to the beat of his own drum, and held steadfast to his own beliefs; however, never imposing them on others. A humanist, he was an exceptionally accepting, forgiving, and diverse person. George enjoyed good quality, fresh food in good company, which enticed him to have his own community garden plot.
