Hamilton, Gerald Richard Lyle

January 3, 1924 – November 6, 2018

Our dearly loved father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully on November 6, 2018 at the age of 94. Gerry is predeceased by the love of his life for 52 years, Annie and his older brother, Norman Hamilton (Shelburne, Nova Scotia). Gerry is survived by daughters Louise (Ben) Krenzke of Etzikom, Alberta and Bernice (Walter) Dyck of Coaldale, Alberta, son Thomas (Mary) Hamilton of Penticton, 7 grandchildren (predeceased granddaughter, Christine Krenzke) and 5 great grandchildren. Gerry was born January 3, 1924 in Gunning Cove, Nova Scotia and was raised on McNutts Island, Nova Scotia. As a teenager, Gerry hitched-hiked across Canada and arrived in the Okanagan. Gerry loved his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and he was an active member of the Pentecostal Church throughout his life in Alberta and British Columbia. Gerry was known for his generosity in serving others by using his handiwork skills and he selflessly gave of his time to volunteer with various non- profit organizations, such as Okanagan Gleaner’s Society in Oliver and The Summerland Community Christmas Dinner. Gerry was passionate about hunting, sailing and Nova Scotia. Gerry suffered with dementia since 2004 and found comfort and peace in being surrounded by memorabilia of Nova Scotia and listening to hymns that were precious to him. Gerry lived with his son and family during the early years of his diagnosis; he enjoyed gardening, the company of the family dog, walks with his son, pies for dessert and received love and kindness from his young grandchildren. During this time of his life many friends and extended family members showed kindness and support to Gerry and it was so gratefully appreciated. In later years, Gerry received care at Comfort Care Home, Westview Extended Care and Village By The Station in Penticton. Special thanks to the staff of the various facilities who took care and provided a safe place for Gerry. A Service of Remembrance will be held at the Julia Street Community Church, 9918 Julia Street, Summerland, BC on Saturday, November 17th at 1:30 pm with a reception to follow.  Donations in his memory can be made to the Okanagan Gleaner’s Society in Oliver (www.okanagangleaners.com) or Gideons International in Canada (www.gideons.ca).
