Glenda Powell

Glenda Audrey Powell passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on July 3rd, 2019. Born as Gladys on May 12th, 1925 to Hedwig Hoehn (1900-2000) and Adolph (Alf) Helm (1896-1953) at home, on the farm, in Ebenezer, Saskatchewan. Glenda moved to Ontario in the late 1940’s where she met and married JC Powell, raised a family, and enjoyed working as a dietician at Castleview Wychwood Towers in Toronto. In the 80’s, Glenda moved with beloved husband Al Denson to British Columbia to be close to her mother and her sister Betty. Together, Betty and Glenda were affectionately called “Slim and Bunch” by family. Glenda enjoyed competitive cake decorating, gardening, the church, her dog Tippy, her family, and traveling.

                Predeceased by husbands James Clayton Powell (1897-1969) and Al Denson (1914-1995), her son Wesley James (1954-1975), her brother Harvey (1922-1994), and her sister Betty Shantz (1923-2004). The last of a large branch of the family tree, she will be dearly missed by daughter Nadine Held, grandson Robert James Brien (Karlissa Castro), granddaughter Christie Brien (Luc Lamoureux), great-granddaughters Ceferina Brien, Aurianna Brien, Trinity Brien, and Catherine Lamoureux, niece Nancy (Helm) Weeks, nephews Wilton and Lyle Helm, and David and Brian Shantz, friends, and extended family. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, July 6th at the residence of Robert Brien, 6973 Rupert street from 11am. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 9th at 11am at Providence Funeral Homes’ Penticton Chapel, 1258 Main street, Penticton, BC. Glenda will be laid to rest with Al Denson in Lakeview Cemetery, followed by a small reception at the First Baptist Church, Penticton.
