Jewel fay (Johnson) LindsayMarch 18, 1931 ~ June 7, 2017 (age 86)
Jewel Fay Lindsay passed away in her 87th year, surrounded by family, on June 7, 2017 after a courageous and determined 16 month battle with cancer.
She will always be remembered and sadly missed by her husband Paul, the love of her life for more than 68 years; her 2 sons Bob and Jim; treasured daughters-in-law Jeanne and Linda; grandchildren Adrienne, Shannon, Heather, Deanna, and Neil; great grandchildren Emma, Sebastian, Octobre, Jasyn, Davis, Juniper, and Vera; and sisters-in-law Margaret, Maureen and Jean. She will also be missed by close friends, neighbours, and extended family in Summerland and across Canada.
Born in Dodsland, SK, in March of 1931, Jewel traveled first with her family and then her husband and sons throughout Canada and half way around the world leaving a trail of adventures, memories, and life-long friends. Jewel and Paul settled in Summerland 25 years ago. They made more wonderful friends and their home became a magnet for family—young and old.
Sharing life and adventures with family and friends gave Jewel and Paul such happiness. Holidaying with friends or family, social activities, family Christmases and birthdays, Legion events, happy hours at neighbours or their place, or just chatting on the street in front of their most beautiful garden gave endless joy.
What a passion for life! Jewel loved the outdoors—camping, fishing, hiking exploring and, lately, watching the goats on the hill. She was an admired sportswomen—from competitive softball, sailing, and bowling, to her retirement love of golf. And yes, she was always happy sitting at a bridge table.
Jewel’s generosity and compassion was demonstrated by the hundreds of scarves, socks, and hats that she knitted and donated to those in need. Many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces took the opportunity to learn from Grandma and knit today. Time for others was something she always had.
Jewel’s final weeks in the wonderful Moog & Friends Hospice House were filled with visits from so many dear friends, treasured nieces and nephews, and of course, her family. Such happy stories filled her room day after day. She was so loved.
It was Jewel’s giving, generous nature and her unbreakable belief in the importance of family that makes her loss so painful. But it was her strength and the life lessons she taught and modelled that will always stay with us in cherished and never-ending memories.
Please join us on TUESDAY, JUNE 13, 2017 at the ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION in Summerland (14205 Rosedale Avenue) at 1:30 p.m. for a celebration of a truly special life and for hugs as we remember all that this treasured woman gave us.
What else can we say? If you were part of Jewel’s life, you already know how much we all have lost. And you, like her family, are mourning that loss.
Please consider sending a memorial donation to cancer research to honour Jewel’s life and memory.
