Joanne Irene (Way) Hordesky

Joanne Irene Hordesky passed away peacefully December 2, 2019 at the age of 71 years.  She will be remembered and sadly missed by her loving husband Bryan Hordesky; children Cathy Jo (Sean) of Portage La Prairie, MB, Candace (Terry) and Sean, both of Winnipeg, MB, Cora (Gilles) of Toronto, ON, and Jason of Summerland, BC; and numerous grand and great grandchildren.

Joanne was born at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, MB in the year 1948.  She was the oldest of three, followed by her sister Lesley and then her brother Kevin.  She grew up in Manitoba and chose to start a career in the nursing profession and was employed as a psych nurse at the MDC Institute in Portage La Prairie, MB. During this time she married and had three children:  Cathy Jo, Candace, and Sean.

In 1984, she met Bryan and they embarked on their journey together.  They moved to Summerland, BC in 1990 where Joanne expanded on her training and became a MOA.  Her caring nature and kind heart made her invaluable to her patients as well as her employers.

Any vacation time was spent travelling to England to visit family, but more often to Manitoba to see and hug her children and grandchildren.  Her heart never really left Manitoba.

Joanne never sat still. She was always busy with something.  She was creative by nature, needlework of any kind always in a bag by her chair.  When she needed a break from that you could find her with her nose buried  in one of the million books that she loved.  One thing that stand out to us, her family, is the birthday calendar.  Joanne would sit down at each New Year and write everyone’s birthday in the new calendar.  From the oldest to the brand new, she had every birthday noted and the month did not pass without the phone call to pass on her best wishes.

Joanne was a woman full of contradictions.  She had a backbone of steel and a heart that would melt at the drop of a hat.  To say she will be missed is an understatement.  Her life touched so many in so many ways that the loss will be felt indefinitely.

Joanne’s Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. at Providence’s Summerland Chapel, 13205 Rosedale Ave., Summerland, BC with Pastor Rick Gay officiating.
