Odette Henriette Burgers

1921 – 2018

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Odette Henriette Burgers May 1st, 2018.  To many she was their teacher; to others their mentor, colleague and friend as  well  as  a true advocate for women’s rights and equality.  To us she was our mother, grandmother and great grandmother , our pillar of strength, wisdom and unconditional love. Odette had an amazing long life with a passion for family, life, learning, books, travel and food.  She lived by the words she left us “Get involved – do not live a marginal life as a spectator.”

Odette joins her husband Willem Burgers , her daughter Michele Sine  and son-in-law, Gary who passed before her.  She leaves behind her son, Patrick Burgers; daughters (and son in laws)  Karin Leeson (Ted) and Ingrid Murray (Mel Garden); grandchildren (and their husbands) Melany Burlock (Tim), Jay-Lynn Maddicks (Sean), Cheryl-Lynn Townsin (Troy), Angela Gatzka (Jared), and Lisa Sine (Darien Maylor); and all her beloved beautiful great grandchildren.

Special thanks to the nurses and care aids at Haven Hill who truly cared and helped to make her final years at Haven Hill her home and extended family.

Maman we do not say ‘au revoir’ as we know you will always be with us but we bid you Bon Voyage on your new incredible journey.  We will always hold you in our hearts and souls.  You will be dearly missed.  Till we meet again ‘Chin-Chin!’.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
