VERIGIN, Violet (Vi)
With great sadness the family of Vi Verigin wishes to announce her passing at Haven Hill Retirement Home on May 31, 2019 at the age of 90 years.
Vi was born on May 5, 1929 in Pass Creek, a small Doukhobor community near Castlegar, BC to Fred and Helen Ogloff.
Vi exhibited her independence in the early 1950’s by working for the Fugita Vegetable Farm in Penticton. She then moved on to become an original staff member in Western Canada’s first A&W Drive-In in 1957. Vi continued working as a cook for Ed Gowe in his restaurants for many years, including catering at the “Peach Bowl,” now known as the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre.
Vi enjoyed cooking, sewing and gardening. Her garden of vegetables, fruit trees and dozens of rose bushes were her passion. Vi was even presented with awards from the City of Penticton for her beautiful yard.
Vi also enjoyed traveling, with trips to Russia, Hawaii, the Caribbean and Yukon.
Vi was predeceased by her husband, Larry; daughter, Linda; grandson, Darryl; sister, Mabel and brothers, Pete and Nick. She is survived by her estranged son, Larry; daughter, Sally (Sam) and grandchildren Laura and Kevin.
A private family service was held on June 5, 2019 with interment at Lakeview Cemetery, Penticton.
Our heartfelt appreciation goes to the staff at Haven Hill and Dr. Barbara Main for their excellent care, kindness and support in looking after Vi. Thank you also to the staff at Providence Funeral Homes for their services.
May she rest in peace.
