Anna (Nellie) Taylor Obituary

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Anna Petronella Taylor (Wolfe) at the age of 93.

Nellie, as she preferred to be called, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2023. Many thanks to the kind staff at Haven Hill Retirement Home for their patient care during the last 4 months of her life. We are grateful to you.

Nellie was born l of 7 children, to immigrant parents Anna & Sigmond Wolfe, who came to Canada from Yugoslavia in search of a better life. They settled initially in Regina, Saskatchewan. Nellie was born on Sept 30, 1929, in Regina.

After hard times in the early 1930s, the family decided to move to the Okanagan, trading their home in Regina for an orchard in Peachland. After several more years of struggle in Peachland with poor crops, they again moved, this time to an orchard property in Summerland where they remained.

In Summerland, Nellie met and quickly fell in love with her husband of 64 years, George Allan Taylor. They married in 1947 and started their own family. Geordie and Nellie worked hard raising 6 children over the years and owned several properties. Mom was a resident of Summerland for over 80 years, and both were well respected in the community.

Nellie was a devoted stay-at-home mom. She volunteered countless hours to our school projects, Girl Guides, and Brownies. She greatly enjoyed her work with the Catholic Women’s League, Summerland Thrift Shop, and as a noon-hour supervisor at MacDonald Elementary School.

Nellie was never afraid to climb a ladder and often did seasonal work in the orchards picking fruit or at the local packing house.

After the birth of our youngest brother Jon in 1973, Mom would spend all of her time involved with his care as a disability-challenged individual. This was extremely important to her and became her very important mission to support Jon’s quality of life. She succeeded greatly at this, and we are all most thankful and grateful.

Nellie enjoyed a simpler life. A Saturday afternoon beer at the Legion, an occasional night out dancing with friends, or a date night. She left golf, slow pitch, and curling activities to our dad but always supported him in his love of sports.

Nellie is predeceased by her loving husband and our father Geordie Sr., her granddaughter Katie Cunsolo, and son-in-law Leigh Moyls.

She is survived by her 6 children, Angela Moyls, Ron Taylor, Janice Taylor, Lisa (Chris) Thomas, Geordie Taylor Jr., and Jon Taylor.

She is also survived by her 8 grandchildren, Krista, Luke & Sam Moyls, Jessie & Anthony Taylor, Aaron Cunsolo, Lauren & Sydney Thomas.

Dear Mother of ours RIP, you did an amazing job, and we are most grateful.
