The family of Irene Barbara Higginson are saddened to announce her passing on April 12, 2023, at the age of 96. She is survived by 16 Nieces and Nephews, and their families. She was predeceased by 2 Brothers and 3 Sisters.
Irene knew from a young age that she wanted to be a teacher. She began in a one-room school in Windermere after graduating from Normal School where she received her teacher’s training. From there she taught in many other school districts throughout BC.
Summers were spent upgrading her education and travelling the world.
After retiring, she moved to Golden and adopted a young dog, Sasha, who took her for many long walks. She later moved to Vernon where she adopted her second dog, Shadow, who also encouraged her to take long walks.
Summerland was her next home and she moved into Seniors Village. She spent her time doing crossword puzzles, reading many books, watching Jeopardy, and beating everyone at Scrabble. She enjoyed many scenic trips around the valley and stopping for soft ice cream or chocolate sundaes.
A BIG thank you to all the residents and staff at Seniors Village for helping
Irene to feel at home and for looking after her when she required more care.
