Carlo Pontes

The family of Carlo Pontes of Penticton, BC is saddened to announce his passing on June 17, 2021.

Carlo was born in Calgary, AB on July 12, 1973. When the family moved from Calgary to Penticton, Carlo was six years old. He attended Queen’s Park Elementary as the family was living and working at the Black Forest Motel. Carlo completed his schooling at Pen High, all the while working together with the family in the motel industry.

At a very early age, Carlo showed a lot of interest in the sport of hockey. Since the family lived close to the hockey arena in Penticton, Carlo started playing. He continued through his teenage years and was a very good defenceman. He was so admired by his fellow teammates that he was elected team captain. After His brother, Daniel, who was eight years his senior, got his drivers license, he took Carlo all over creation to play in hockey games and tournaments.

Carlo also loved to play soccer and was a team member of the Penticton Pinnacles. Just recently he was watching the Netherlands play and kept his mom updated on the scores.

Being brought up in a kind of strict European family, Carlo wanted to see how the outside world lived. He spent time in Alberta where he worked on heavy machinery in the rock crushing business. He was a good worker but had trouble dealing with authority. As a consequence, he changed jobs frequently.

During this time, he met his good friend, Roger Massiah. Carlo worked for Roger, who may have been the only boss he ever had with whom he could get along. It was Roger who discovered Carlo after his passing.

Finally, Carlo returned to the family business. Later on, he met Kendra and together they brought into this world a beautiful little girl they named Juliana.

A Celebration of Carlo’s Life was held on Wednesday, June 30 at Providence Funeral Homes Chapel in Penticton. He was laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery near his father, Leo and his brother, Patrick.
