Charlie passed away peacefully at Haven Hill Retirement Centre on March 4, 2023, 9 days short of his 102nd birthday. He was predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Evelyn and is survived by his children, Sandy (Doug) Trussell, Rob (Susan) and Chris (Irene); 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Charlie settled in Summerland as a youth and enlisted at the outbreak of WWII. He landed in Normandy on D Day, receiving the French Legion of Honour and other recognition for his service. After the war, he married Evelyn and was an active community member, being Legion President, fundraising for the Summerland Legion Village, playing in the town band, serving on town Council and as an active Shriner.
As a longtime fruit grower, he became President of the BC Fruit Growers Association and the BC Federation of Agriculture, providing the leadership farmers needed in a time of regulatory change.
Those who knew Charlie will remember his quit wit, appreciation of the written word, generous spirit and outgoing manner.
Charlie enjoyed many wonderful years living at Angus Place in Summerland before transferring to Haven Hill in Penticton and was so appreciative of the wonderful care provided in both of those homes.
At his request, there will be no service.
