Danny Grant Obituary

Born September 7, 1944, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, to Ruby and Ron Grant. Danny Grant had a full and adventurous life. His childhood years were spent in Burnaby and Penticton. He graduated from St. George's High School in Vancouver and graduated from California State Polytechnic College in June 1967 with a Bachelor of Agricultural Science degree. He worked in BC as a real estate appraiser just like his father, Ron. His work often involved land acquisition for large-scale projects like highways, pipelines, and powerlines. During this time, he acquired two professional designations: P. Ag. (Professional Agrologist) and SR/WA (Senior Member of the International Right of Way Association).

He raised his family with Diane in Delta, B.C. and had three boys Steven, Devin, and Aaron. While living in Delta, Danny was involved in many community activities such as coaching sports teams, Delta Pioneer Days, and Rotary Club.

In the 1980’s he and some partners began Cranwest, a cranberry farm on the edge of Burns Bog that continues to this day producing cranberries for Ocean Spray.

He had a love for all things “horse” and would compete in endurance races and “Ride and Ties” (a two-person - one-horse leapfrog race). His last endurance ride was in his mid-70s. He completed over 23 races of 100 miles and many other shorter races. Drifter, Cochise and Pico Boo were three of his favourite horses. With Pico Boo he completed his tenth Tevis Cup 100-mile endurance race in 2014, earning a 1000-mile silver buckle.

Danny was a man who didn’t believe in obstacles and was always up early doing chores and working on projects. Even during his last few days, he was preparing to move to a new 30-acre property in the hills above Osoyoos. His love of family and community was a driving force in his life. Even strangers were touched by his charismatic and generous nature.

He is survived by his partner Colleen and his siblings Barrie, Byron, Clayton and Lauralee, his three boys Steven, Devin and Aaron, and his 8 grandchildren Ryanne, Lauren, Caden, Jayce, Olivia, Sydney, Ty and Ruby.

There will be a service on March 23 at 4 pm at the Penticton Golf Club.
