Diana Meronek Obituary

Born July 20, 1949, Diana passed away December 15, 2022 in Penticton after a short illness.

Diana was born in Oliver, BC. She was raised in Osoyoos and attended school there and in Oliver (SOSS). She spent a happy childhood growing up in the small community, enjoying the freedoms of a simpler life in less complicated times. After High School graduation, her next four years were spent at the University of Victoria where she earned a teaching degree. Her first teaching position was in the Surrey school district. After a year she accepted a teacher exchange position in Australia where she taught in Brisbane Queensland. There, during school breaks, she travelled all over the continent. When she returned to BC, she accepted a position in the Quesnel school district where she taught primary and elementary students for over 30 years. During that time she served as a school librarian and had fond memories of many school Christmas concerts she helped put together. She was dedicated to her students and strove to teach them to set goals and become lifelong learners.

During her lifetime, Diana travelled to Hawaii many times and to Costa Rica. She took cruises to Mexico and Alaska with family and made a return trip to Australia for further exploration. In Canada, she travelled as far east as Montreal stopping at many popular tourist destinations. She was keen to sightsee and enjoyed learning about the places she visited.

Diana was the quintessential homebody once she retired. She was a very private, capable, independent woman. She loved to read….and spent many hours on sewing and quilting projects. She enjoyed the creative process of planning quilts and putting them together in her own way. She loved animals and was never without a furry feline friend, having had six cats over her adult life. She was always a big supporter of the SPCA, her favourite charity.

Diana gave generously of her time supporting friends in need and caretaking for her family. She is predeceased by her father, Pat and brother-in-law, Kerry. She is survived by her mother, Emmy and sister, Joy… also her aunt Rose and uncle Richard, aunt Mary, cousins, Ria and Debbie and her friend and neighbour, Deanne. She has an extended number of cousins across Canada and the US.

Diana will forever be loved and missed by them all.
