Donna Balfour Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Donna Elaine Balfour. She passed away peacefully at the Penticton Regional Hospital on March 25, 2022, at 76 years old. She will be dearly missed.

Donna leaves behind her husband of 54 years, Doug; son, Craig (Janet) and daughter, Dana (Carey); grandchildren, Teigan, Taya, Josh and Paige; brothers, John and Gerry and sisters, Louise and Frances.

She is predeceased by her parents and sister, Theresa.

Donna was born to Mary Anne and Donald (Danny) in Antigonish, NS, on June 14, 1945. She grew up in a family of six where she was the second youngest sibling. She was a happy child with a big smile, strong personality, and very adventurous spirit. Upon graduation from St. Martha’s School of Nursing in Antigonish in 1966, she and two of her best friends travelled to Calgary. She realized then that she was a city girl at heart. She met Doug, the love of her life, and married him on September 14, 1968.

She began her nursing career at Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary in the Emergency department where she worked for 25 years. In 1989, she moved with her family to White Rock, BC, close to the ocean that she loved. She continued her nursing career at Peach Arch Hospital Emergency department until her retirement.

Donna loved travelling with her husband, Doug and friends all around the world. Some of the most memorable trips were to Tanzania and Kenya, backpacking in Australia with her daughter, sailing in the Caribbean and Virgin Islands, Baden[1]Baden, Germany, and many cruises. This was a passion of hers that she looked forward to and reflected on throughout her life.

Donna was an avid reader, loved skiing, biking, and swimming. She appreciated a good sense of humour and enjoyed the company of others. Her smile and laugh were infectious as well as her ability to take care of others. She will be remembered for her big heart, and the many people she touched during her nursing career.

The family would like to extend its warmest thanks to the medical staff at the Penticton Regional Hospital for their gracious care and support, both in ICU and 3rd floor.

A private Memorial Mass has been held.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2022 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Morgan Creek Golf and Country Club, 3500 Morgan Creek Way, Surrey, BC. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Kidney Foundation at https://kidney.ca in Donna’s name would be greatly appreciated.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
