Florence Margaret Kjorven

Florence Margaret Kjorven passed away with her family by her side on August 26, 2023, at the age of 91 years. She is remembered and sadly missed by her children, Cameron Kjorven of Summerland, BC, Barbara Crook (Patrick) of Penticton, BC, and Carla Kirkpatrick (Wally) Of Salmon Arm, BC, 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, along with her siblings, Gerald Nelson of Cabri, SK, and Linda King (Neal) of Regina, SK. She is sadly predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Otto; son, Clifford Kjorven; great-granddaughter, Daisy Hinton; Brother, John Nelson; and sister, Lillian Kary.

Flo was born November 24, 1931, in Cabri, Sask.  She married Otto Kjorven and they lived on their farm in Cabri, Sask. where they raised their 2 sons & 2 daughters.  Flo helped Otto with various jobs on the farm & especially loved growing a large garden & filling the farmyard with beautiful flowers. They spent 7 years in Mackenzie, BC, prior to retiring in Summerland, BC.

Flo & Otto enjoyed dancing, curling, playing cards & games, camping, playing music at Care Homes, and travelling – especially to Norway.  She volunteered at their church, with the strata council, & teaching children to skate, to name a few. Her interests were playing bridge, knitting, crocheting, doing needlepoint, sewing, playing the piano & percussive instruments, teaching ceramics, painting, cooking & baking.  Flo kept Otto’s Norwegian family traditions alive by making lefse, krumkake cookies, and the special Norwegian celebration cake for all family weddings. She liked telling funny stories & having a good laugh.    

Flo was always helping someone & was well known for her loving, kind spirit.  She was the foundation of our family, through & through.  She was most passionate about spending time with family, especially her beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren & family pets. She was dearly loved by all her family & all those who knew her.  She was affectionately known by many as “Gramma” & will be fondly missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held on September 30, 2023, at 1:00 p.m., at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 15244 N Victoria Road, Summerland, BC, with Pastor Jeff officiating.
