On November 19, 2021, Grace Kathleen Sawarin passed away at Moog and Friends Hospice after a courageous battle with cancer.
Grace was born in Sexsmith Alberta to parents Andrew and Esther Hoflin. She married her husband Bill in 1959 and moved to Penticton in 1971 with their daughter Barb. Grace worked as a payroll clerk most of her life. After Bill purchased his gravel truck, she accompanied him in the early 1980’s to various locations throughout BC, and she would work in the scale shack alongside the paving crew for 6 months of the year, and then wintering in Palm Springs, CA.
After retiring in 1996 from Peerless Page they wintered in Yuma, AZ, making many trips to Puerto Penasco, Mexico. Switching to enjoy other adventures which included a trip to Alaska, travelling across Canada and USA. These last year’s camping in Oroville, WA, all summer which brought them so much enjoyment.
Grace volunteered with the Canadian Red Cross, and was an avid ‘Blue Jays’ fan, seeing them play in Toronto and Seattle.
Playing card games was a must when visiting the Hoflin farm, and at Grace and Bill’s home when having company over for perogies, and cabbage rolls on special occasions.
Grace happily enjoyed setting up card tables on Saturdays at Elk’s and playing crib with her good friend, Sharon.
Grace is survived by her husband Bill and daughter Barb; sisters, Ethel Rude, Elva Carlstrom and Ruth Carlstad, and numerous nieces, nephews, and brother/sisters-in-laws. She is predeceased by her parents, brother Donnie Hoflin, sister Audrey Anderson and four brother-in-laws.
