Hilda Naylor passed away peacefully a few weeks shy of her 96th birthday. Born in Calgary on April 23, 1924 she spent her childhood days in the Rocky Mountains, as the family lived in Exshaw and Seebe, while her dad worked for Loders Lime. Later moving to Calgary she secured a job as a secretary for the United Farmers of Alberta COOP and it was there she met her future husband Charles Naylor. Chuck worked for Canada Packers and Hilda stayed home to run the household and care for their two children Linda and Ken.
Tired of the harsh winters, Chuck moved the family to Penticton and Hilda volunteered with the Meals on Wheels program at the Penticton Hospital for 30 years. She was very creative and artistic and enjoyed crochet work, sewing, needlepoint, ceramics and her true passion was oil paintings, mostly of mountain scenes and flowers. Becoming a Nana to Jaime and Shelby brought her great happiness and she loved being able to care for them and walk to the school to pick them up.
A real animal lover, if she didn’t have them living with her she would leave food in the back porch for any stray creature that was hungry, which often was a family of racoon or the odd skunk.
Along with her parents Giuseppe and Catterina Smaniotto and brother Reno Smaniotto she is also predeceased by her husband Charles Naylor and daughter Linda Crane. She is lovingly remembered by her son Ken and his wife Andrea, granddaughters Jaime and Shelby Naylor, brother Don and Anna Smaniotto and son in law Pat Crane.
The family would like to thank Doctor Jamie Johnston whom she greatly respected and the kind caring staff at Trinity Centre where she has lived for the past 9 years.
