Irene Gliege Obituary

Irene Gliege (previously Gore, nee Forrest)

September 9, 1939 – May 19, 2023

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear mom, Irene Margaret Gliege. She passed away, with her children at her side, in Penticton, BC, at the age of 83.

Irene was born in Turtleford, SK, and spent her childhood/teenage years in Quesnel, Prince George, Squamish, and Penticton, BC. As an adult, she resided in Revelstoke and Kelowna before settling in Penticton. Irene‘s strength of character and work ethic helped her raise two children on her own, at a time when single-parenting was uncommon. Irene worked at Embassy Cleaners and later at the Retirement Centre.

Irene married Ed Gliege in 1980. They enjoyed camping at Mabel Lake and travelling to the Lower Mainland, Quesnel, and Saskatchewan to visit family. Sadly, Ed passed away in 1993.

Irene participated in bowling leagues for many years and was always up for bingo, among other games. She loved to bake and kept our house filled with tasty squares and cookies for many years.

She is survived and fondly remembered by her son Derek Gore, daughter Heather MacBeth (Brad), grandchildren Jordan Davies and Janna Davies, great grandchildren Cadence and Asher Davies, brothers Doug (Lil) Forrest, Don (Dorothy) Forrest, her sister Mabel Johnson, and many nieces and nephews.

Irene was predeceased by her parents Maude (1991) and Bill Forrest (1975), sister Doreen Doerr (2022), and husband Ed Gliege (1993)

We thank all the staff at Southwood, and of the Moog & Friends Hospice House for the compassion and care they provided for Mom. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to the BC Lung Foundation, the Heart and Stroke Foundation BC, or charity of your choice.

Irene’s ashes will be interred at Lakeview Cemetery in Penticton. Per Irene’s wishes there will be no service.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
