Our mother was a flower so delicate and yet so strong, during her lifetime she fought her battle with Cancer, Tuberculosis, and Bell’s Palsy and throughout all her health struggles she raised her children to be forgiving, kind, patient and through example, to be strong in the challenges we would encounter.
Her life had her in the spotlight many times as she was not only beautiful but had a passion for fashion, which was inherited from her great grandmother who was a seamstress in Britain. In 1954, she became Ms. Deep Cove; she carried the title amazingly during her year of community service. Her first job was working at Eaton’s downtown Vancouver. In the later years after her children were older, she worked in the retail clothing and eyewear business, where her excitement for fashion continued.
Iris lived her early years in Deep Cove, North Vancouver attending elementary school and completing her education at Burrard High School, then on Deep Cove Rd. Her adventures in the cove had her swimming to Jug Island, roller skating, trading clothes with her classmates, going to Hasting Park Horse Races, hopefully winning, to purchase a new dress for the next date, just a few of the many memories she leaves us with.
Iris married Gerald Koebernick and moved to Maple Ridge, where they raise 5 children. After her second marriage in 1993, Iris and Roy Ramsey retired to 70 Mile where they became the members of a small community, which brought Iris great joy in celebrating her talents in sewing, entertaining visitors, and grandchildren, sitting with a glass of wine chatting and laughing with family and friends while watching the loons cross the lakes surface.
Our mother was always in the shadows giving advice throughout our journeys, encouraging each of us to be all that we could be. She was “the wind beneath our wings” and she will continue to be as our journeys continue.
There are no words to express how thankful we are that she was our “mum”.
We will talk like we always did; we know you are watching over us and your arms will always be wrapped around us!
You have given us everything we need and now you can rest Mum, we love you!
