James Scott Obituary

The family of Jim Scott of Penticton, BC is saddened to announce his passing at the age of 68 years.

Jim grew up in the Crescent Beach area of White Rock, BC. His Grandfather McKay taught him how to swim by throwing him off the peer and said “swim or sink!” They enjoyed the little fish and chips spots along the ocean front. Christmas dinners were always enjoyed with at least 25 people at the dinner table as cousins, aunts and uncles gathered to celebrate together.

Jim spent 3 summers at the Vernon army camp, first as a Cadet and then joined in the Militia. He also learned how to play the trumpet which he really loved.

A passion of his was drama class in high school. He loved playing Linus in the Charlie Brown specials. He also loved visiting Kelowna where his 3 elderly aunts lived. When visiting they would sneak out late at night as the aunts slept and help themselves to fruit from neighboring orchards.  The three aunts were very important to Jim and anyone who knew about the 3 aunts knew they were very special ladies.

His love of cars was also a passion, and if there was a car show or drag race, he wanted to be there.  His 1969 GTO and his ‘58 Chevy were his absolute favourite cars and he loved to race around town challenging others to race him!

Jim moved to Penticton in 1971 and in 1973 he met the love of his life, Loretta Ann Bennett. They married July 25th and spent the next 46 years together raising a family.

He volunteered for Citizens on Patrol for 4 years, helped out at the food bank and organized a blanket and jacket drive for the homeless.

Jim enjoyed camping so much that every year for over 40 years he and his buds would take off for 3 or 4 days of guy-time and would come home full of funny stories and how much it meant for him to be with his buds. He loved that time.

Jim was predeceased by his dad, Dennis in 1996; his sister, Betsy in 2017 and his brother, David in 2019, all from cancer.

He leaves to mourn his wife, Loretta; daughter, Jennifer (Eric) and her children, Logan and Emma; sons, Chris and Ryan (Jasmine); his mom, Cairine Scott; sister, Barb Tyrrell and brother, Bruce Scott along with sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; many nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends.

From my heart to yours Jim, I will love you forever and always, until we meet again.

A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held on Saturday, September 18, at 11:00 a.m. at the Gazebo on Munson Mountain. Following the Celebration of Life, you are invited to go to Jen and Eric Campbell’s house in Okanagan Falls at 1228 Maple Street for pizza (Jim's favourite) and refreshments.
