Jean Fricker Obituary

Jean Ann Fricker

Jean Ann Fricker has gone to be with her Lord on July 16, 2020 at the age of 77 years. Jean was survived by and sadly missed by her loving husband of 57 years Garry, children Arlene Hollenberg (Andrew), Lanette Sloboda (Chris), Kimberly Horie (Kent), and Kevin Fricker (Shannon), 10 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren as well as Brothers Bob Dunn (Sharon), David Dunn (Linda) and Sister Esther Donovan (George).

It is no secret that we are here today with deep sorrow. We have shared in the life of a beautiful lady who has been a fabulous wife, a wonderful Mother, a very best friend. She has been an encourager for her husband of 57 years, her children and many friends. She loved her family and was the best friend to each of her children.

She was an advisor, counsellor, soft shoulder to lean on yet she was strong and determined and willing to face great challenges that were evidenced in her willingness to live in a foreign country and learn a new language and accept a new culture.

Music was a large part of her person. She had a beautiful voice and although she only had the basic principles of music lessons she became very proficient on the piano, organ and accordion. Her ability to switch keys at a moment to accommodate a singer was phenomenal. She organized and led choral groups including choirs, quartets, trios and soloists. She encouraged her children to make efforts in their own personal musical skills.

She was an excellent cook and could perform miracles with whatever was at hand. Rarely did we eat the same menu 2 days in a row. She loved to knit and sew and produced products to dress and warm her family.

She was organized and taught her children to be the same. They would remember the duty lists on the bulletin board ( the fridge ) where each of the children checked their responsibilities for that day. If the task was not completed, an explanation was required.

Apart from her homemaker challenges and the active life of a Pastors wife, she worked in various other occupations. She was a secretary in an elementary school, a librarian, a secretary at Huntley Street as well as a number of Government positions.

Words that her children have used to describe her are: She was sweet, sassy, funny loving, talented, gracious, courageous, determined, witty, discerning, sensitive, huggable, humorous. Always a lady….she was precious and definitely one of a kind. She always said what she thought and although some could take offense she had a way of saying things with a twinkle in her eye that made you realize her comment was not intended to hurt. She was a faithful, godly lady who loved her husband deeply and partnered with him in ministry throughout her whole life.

She was a woman of faith and did not hesitate to let others know of her commitment to serve the Lord. She had a calm direct manner that caused people to listen and learn from things that she shared with them….often as a loving and caring companion on the road of life.

She has been deeply loved and will be sorely missed but long remembered for what she has left behind for all of us.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
