Jean Johnson Obituary

Jean was a true Penticton girl. She was born at the Penticton hospital on Haven Hill, the 4th of 5 children of Charles and Vida Perrin, and graduated from Pen-Hi in 1950.

Grandpa was the first BC Forest Service warden in town and the family home was on Norton Street. Jean married our dad Owen Jones, whom she met while teaching school and rooming with Dad’s sister, Olwyn, in the North Thompson.

We were all born on the Coast and the family relocated to Penticton in 1966. After Dad died in 1972, Mom was left to support 4 kids.

Jean Jones was the first female letter carrier in Penticton and moved to Vernon in 1977. She retired to Penticton and spent many years wintering in Yuma, AZ. Mom then enjoyed living at the Concorde and Cherry Park.

Jean was predeceased by our dad in 1972, and our brother Owen (Spike) in 2016. Jean’s husband, Wilfred, moved to Nova Scotia in late 2023. She has left behind her daughters, Lynda Jones Layng (Kirby), Susan Jones, and Margo Cooper (Mike); granddaughters, Juliana, Angela and Barbara; and great-grandchildren, Adam and Naima.

Mom appreciated the wonderful staff at Cherry Park, especially Michele & Alene. Thanks so much to Dr. Bursey & Dr. Daniels and all of the staff at PRH for their unwavering compassionate care.

Mom made it to 92, sharing some chuckles and stories right to the end.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
