Joan L. Watson passed away peacefully at Dr. Andrew Pavilion in Summerland, BC April 5, 2020 at the age of 84 years.
Joan was the only child of Clement Keith Watson and Betty Lucienne (Boulger) Watson. At age 2, after the sudden passing of her mother, Joan went to be raised by her grandparents in North Vancouver. After high school graduation she attended UBC for teachers’ training. This led her to Smithers where she taught elementary school.
In the early 70’s she moved to Penticton and worked in a bank. Joan became very involved in one of the local churches, attending all their Bible studies, teaching Sunday school, singing in their choir, and becoming a member of their clubs.
In 1973 Joan had a terrible fall resulting in a badly broken ankle which took many months to heal. She became unsatisfied with her life and the church and although busy, she was very unhappy. She felt she had reached the end of herself and nothing felt worthwhile. Joan came into contact with one of God’s people who was helping her at the time with her recovery. Joan felt drawn by the spirit and with courage, expressed how she was feeling. She was invited to attend gospel meetings and soon after professed on February 24, 1974. She embraced the truth and it brought stability to her life. She considered it a privilege to help others in God’s family and was grateful for others’ help towards her. She was thankful that God’s family is the same throughout the whole world.
Joan made Summerland her home in the mid 70’s until her passing. She was a very structured person who lived independently until the decline in her health required a move for more care. Many people were recipients of her thoughtfulness and care as Joan was very diligent in sending cards. Her desire was to keep pressing on to heaven and home. She will be missed.
A Graveside Service will be held on April 9, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. at Canyon View Cemetery, 10316 Canyonview Road, Summerland, BC.
