Louise Sjoquist Obituary

Louise Alice Sjoquist passed away in Hospice on October 1, 2021, after a lengthy illness that may have weakened her body but not her mind, her sense of humour or her positive outlook on life and her desire to help others.

Louise was born on March 29, 1950, in Kamloops, BC to Molly and Norman Sjoquist, now deceased.  She is survived by her sister Jean Willerton, her niece Michelle Johnston, and other family members and friends.

Louise served on many boards in Kelowna supporting causes that included social and political issues, human rights and animal rights.  She loved animals, especially cats, and in her book club couldn't read anything that dealt with animal cruelty.

One of her primary areas of involvement was with community theatre.  She joined Theatre Kelowna Society in 1981 and gave 40 years of service as board member, treasurer, costume designer, costume room manager, actor, set painter, set designer, and cookie provider.  In general Louise would run any errand anybody needed at anytime with a smile.

Louise had a great sense of humour. She had some real health challenges and major surgeries over the years, but she always told a great story and even made her medical experiences sound funny, though they sure wouldn't have been at the time.  And throughout the many years of her illness, she never once complained.

Louise was kind, gentle, loving and generous.  She rarely showed her anger and when she did nobody noticed because it was so soft and gentle.  And later she would laugh at how angry she was and yet no one even noticed – and we’d all laugh with her.

No service will be held for Louise, at her request.  She simply asked that all who knew her remember the good times and the laughter, as laughter was the quality she treasured most.  So please pause and take a moment to remember the fine lady that she was.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Louise’s memory can be made to your local SPCA, Kelowna Hospice, Kelowna General Hospital or a charity of your choice.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
