April 7, 1943 ~ September 12, 2023 (age 80) 80 Years Old

Obituary

Lynn Gail Bowes passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, in the Moog and Friends Hospice in Penticton, at the age of 80, where family members were able to be close by her in her final days and hours. Lynn was born to Wilford and Bernice Bowes on April 7, 1943, in Brandon, Manitoba.

The Bowes family moved to Vernon, B.C. in 1948, where Lynn and her younger sister Laureen grew up and went to school. Lynn became an accomplished figure skater and was a member of the McIntosh Girl’s Pipe Band.

After graduation, Lynn became a continuity writer at CJIB Radio, where she met her future husband Dave. They were married in 1962 and moved to Penticton where they welcomed daughter Dawn, son Scott, and daughter Teri. Another radio station move brought the family to Osoyoos in 1967, where the family enjoyed adventures in a home located in an orchard setting.

1972 brought a change from radio to community newspapers and the family moved to Summerland, where for 20 years they operated the Summerland  Review with a dedicated staff who were also wonderful friends. For many years Lynn was an active member of the Eastern Star.

New adventures began in 1990 when Lynn, Dave, and their family established ‘B.C. Wine Trails' and 'Wine Regions of Ontario’ wine magazines and later the ‘Canadian Grapes to Wine industry’ publication. Lynn played an integral role in them from proofreading to distribution, which involved trips through the lower mainland and eastern Canada.

Lynn was a wonderful homemaker, mother, and loving companion. She was an accomplished cook, loved baking, and was an expert seamstress.

Lynn was predeceased by grandson Luke Wiens. She is survived by her loving husband Dave, daughters Dawn Wiens (Mark) and Teri Leardo, son Scott, grandchildren Bobbi, Allen (Maxime), and Laz Wiens, granddaughters Rachel Quarry (Teri) and Rylan Gamble (Scott), her sister Laureen Valair (Verne), as well as many close family members and friends.

A Memorial Service for Lynn will be held at the Summerland United Church, 13204 Henry Rd, Summerland, BC, at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, September 25, 2023. Those wishing to extend a tribute could do so to the Moog and Friends Hospice in Penticton.

The Gamble family would like to extend their gratitude to the nurses and doctors who cared for Lynn, and particularly the staff at the Moog and Friends Hospice who were a wonderful comfort to Lynn and her family in her final days.
