Manuel Araujo Obituary

Our Dad passed away January 4, 2024, surrounded by his family. Dad was born in Candelaria, Sao Miguel, Azores, the oldest of 7 children. His parents and younger siblings would eventually move to Canada and once he completed his mandatory military service, he would join them in 1971. From the moment he landed here, he embraced his new country and got to work building his new life in Penticton.

After marrying our mom and having us 2 kids, we made the move to Naramata. It was his dream to own an orchard and he happily farmed for the next 20 years. While farming was his day job, dad also worked as a janitor at the Naramata packing house.

While dad worked hard, he also had time for play. He loved going fishing with family and friends. He also loved helping wherever he could. He always helped at the Portuguese Holy Spirit Festival and so enjoyed socializing and reminiscing during these events.

A brother, an uncle, a nephew, an amazing dad and a beloved grandpa and great grandfather – we love you and miss you. We know that you are in a better place, likely at your favourite fishing spot.

Dad is survived by his wife, Carmo; children, Frank (Kim) and Diane (Trong); grandchildren, Erykah, Joshua, Emily, and Aiden; 3 great-grandchildren; siblings, Margarida, Louis, Maria, Naomi, Dan, and Lucy & their families, as well extended family here and in Portugal. He is predeceased by his parents, Joao and Maria Araujo.

Prayers will be held at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Penticton on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with interment at Lakeview Cemetery.
