Mervyn’s sudden death occurred on May 2, 2021, a sunny afternoon. He will be lovingly remembered by his life partner, Roger Boulet. Mervyn had several brothers and sisters and their spouses: Mary-Anne DeFoort, Arlene Mahadoo, Doug, Paul, Mark, and Kathleen Troller. Brothers David and Denis predeceased Mervyn, as did his father, Peter McLeod, and his mother Agatha (née Malette).
Mervyn was born in Winnipeg (St. Vital), Manitoba, November 10, 1947, where he attended primary and secondary schools and became registered as a respiratory technologist at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg (1970). He subsequently worked in that profession in Victoria, BC and Adelaide, Australia before returning to Victoria and then moving on to Vancouver, BC and Edmonton, AB. After he moved to Summerland, BC in 1993, he was variously employed in a number of Okanagan Valley wine shops and conducted wine tours as well. Many will remember him as a driver for Summerland Taxi over a number of years.
Mervyn spoke fluent French and was trained in First Aid. He joined various choirs in the Okanagan Valley over the years, especially enjoying Penticton’s Tune-Agers and singing at St. Saviour’s Anglican Church.
His many friends and acquaintances will remember his ability to spread joy and laughter, his culinary abilities, his sense of humor, and his infectious good cheer.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date when it is safe to meet again.
