Renee Christine (Allingham) Dickinson

June 1, 1950 ~ June 14, 2020 (age 70)

Renee Dickinson passed away with family by her side on Sunday, June 14 at the age of 70 years.

To say she will be missed is an understatement. She leaves behind her husband of 31 years, Dwane Dickinson and her children: Michael (Jill) Fernandez, Patricia (Grayden) Cameron, and Erica Fernandez, as well as three stepchildren: Mike Dickinson, Joy (Eddie) Farkas, and Lance (Carine) Dickinson. She adored her sisters Carol, Gayle, Maxine, and Rene and truly cherished their times together. She will also be missed tremendously by numerous nieces and nephews and her best friend Susan McKenzie.

Most importantly though, Renee always made sure people knew the true loves of her life were her grandchildren: Emily, Zachary, Owen, Gavin, and Rhett. You could not meet her on the street, or in a shop (especially Marnie’s hair salon), or a random lineup, where she would not take a moment to smile and tell you stories about them. If you knew her, you knew these kids. She loved her family deeply and never wanted for anything more than to be with everyone. She loved living in Summerland and called the Okanagan Valley “God’s country”. Although she traveled to far and exotic places such as Indonesia and South America, she was always the most content when home here in Summerland on their beautiful family farm. She never longed for fancy things, but always for the comfort of her old recliner, slippers, and warm and comfy clothes – Lord, make sure she is warm up in heaven. And don’t forget the Kit-Kat bars!

Renee took pride in Dickinson Family Farm and worked tirelessly to learn all the ins and outs of the world of fruit.  She met so many wonderful people over the years and, as much as the hours were long and arduous, she felt proud of hers and Dwane’s accomplishments and this is definitely a wonderful piece of her legacy.

Renee’s motto was “one day at a time”. She endured many hardships throughout her life but was so incredibly brave and resilient. There was never any point in “worrying about tomorrow” and many things were cured with a hug, or a phone call and reassurance from Mom. Her children will truly miss her insight and clarity on many of life’s lessons and more-so, just the simple day-to-day connection. She had a very special way of making sure you knew how loved you were. Renee lived her truth every day and knew the value in letting her arms always be home for her family; for this, her children are forever grateful, and they will miss her more than could ever be described here today.

Renee was predeceased by her loving mother, Phyllis, last June.

An intimate family gathering will be held at a later date.

The family asks in lieu of flowers to please consider a donation to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation in her honor.
