Richard Gibson Obituary

In loving memory of Richard John Gibson (Dick). Richard passed away peacefully on December 24, 2022 at the age of 97 years in Penticton, BC.

He was born December 11, 1925 to Charles and Sarah Gibson and raised in the Green Timbers area of Surrey. Richard volunteered in the Royal Canadian Air Force in September, 1943 and was discharged in December, 1945 followed by four years in the Canadian Merchant Navy from December, 1945 to November, 1949. After marrying Nancy in 1956, Richard and Nancy raised their family in the Fleetwood area of Surrey. Richard worked for the BC Electric Company as a Conductor until it was discontinued in 1958 after which he drove Trolley Bus for the same company. He also worked as a guard at Oakalla Prison for a short time before enjoying a 30 year career as an Instrument Mechanic in the Canadian Paperworkers Union in Burnaby. Richard also dedicated many years of community service as a member of the Peace Arch Shriners club and served as President for two terms. Richard and Nancy retired to Penticton in 1989 and loved their travel trailer adventures and also enjoyed the large circle of friends and family with an open invitation for everyone to come visit.

Richard was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Sarah and his brother, Bill (Anne Veronica). He lives behind his wife, Nancy; two sons, Randy (Cathie) and Bruce (Anne); eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. 

The family would like to thank all of Richard’s kind and caring friends at the Regency Southwood where he resided for the last two years. 

A Service for Richard will be held at Providence Funeral Homes, 1258 Main Street, Penticton, BC on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.
