Sharon Gibbs Obituary

Sharon Ann Gibbs (Redick) passed away peacefully on October 16, 2018 in Penticton in her 74th year.

Beloved mother of daughters, Alison (Steve) Taylor and Jessica Gibbs, and beloved grandmother of Jack and Silvia Taylor and Leo (Redick) Gibbs. Sharon was predeceased by her parents, Kathleen Redick-Pearson and Lindsay Redick. Sharon will be fondly remembered by her sisters, Gail (Roger) Surkan and Brenda Best, nieces and nephews (Lindsay, Kristen and Reid Surkan, Kaylyn and Jeffrey Best), extended Copeland, Beckstead and Pearson families, friends, and former husband, Trevor Gibbs.

Sharon was a dynamo who will be greatly missed.  She was a graduate of McGill University, had been a fashion buyer for Eatons after university, an accomplished businesswoman, who created her own company, and beautifully renovated and sold several homes.  She will be remembered for her warmth, big heart, smiles and hugs, smarts, zest for life, and love of fun and style.  She will also be remembered for her creativity, curiousity, and artistic talents. She was a wonderful artist, interior designer and decorator, “fashionista” and cook.  She loved to entertain and travel, and travelled extensively with her family, including in Asia and Europe. Sharon lived near Regina, where she grew up on the farm, as well as in Montreal, Toronto (Georgetown), Singapore, West Vancouver, Red Deer and Penticton.

Sharon was incredibly resilient, having survived a brain aneurysm and two strokes.  She lovingly prepared a book on her family’s history cherished by her family.  She adored her grandchildren, and carried around their photos in her pockets, even as she moved into a nursing home following a stroke in 2014.

Our sincere thanks to the staff at Good Samaritan Village by the Station (Cottage One) for their kindness and care of Sharon over the last few years. Special thanks to Sue Williams formerly of We Care (now CBI Home Health) for providing companionship and laughter.

A Celebration of Life will be organized in the spring.  Instead of monetary donations, a random act of kindness in Sharon’s memory would be appreciated.

“Life is eternal, and love is immortal, and death is only a horizon, and the horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight.” (William Penn)
