Sheldon Ernest Doherty

1946 - 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sheldon Ernest Doherty on March 29, 2021.  He will be forever missed by his wife Marion, daughters Keri (Mark) and Lori (Ron), brother Albert (Barb), sister Karen (Lance), grandchildren Chloe, Presley, Tyler, and Brynleigh, niece Kyra, and nephew Dawson.

Sheldon was born and raised in Summerland.  After graduating from High School and Grade 13 in Penticton, he moved to Vancouver, then to Prince George to work for Beneficial Finance where he met his wife Marion of 51 years.  They spent 1 year in Winnipeg, then moved back to Summerland to take over the family orchard and raise their children.  He worked for the Liquor Board until he retired.

Sheldon had many hobbies which included painting, carving pipes, walking sticks and knives, camping, fishing, weight lifting and arm wrestling.  Sheldon had an unconditional love for dogs.  Over the years, he had his faithful companions of 10 different breeds of dogs by his side.  He was very musically inclined and could play any instrument he picked up including the accordion which the grandchildren loved to dance to.

He was well loved by all his family and friends.

We would like to thank Dr. Krabbe and all the wonderful caring staff at Summerland Seniors Village.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society.

There will be no formal service by request.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Dear Marion and family.
We are saddened to hear of Sheldons passing. He was very fortunate to have such a strong supportive family to carry him through the tough times with Alzheimer’s.
We will remember him as the gentle giant. Our days go right on back to grade school. Always loved his sneaky little smile.

Marion, Keri, Lori and  family.
We are so very, very sorry and saddened to hear about Sheldon.  He will be greatly missed by us all.  I have very fond memories of being at your place during the summers or almost every weekend when dad and us would drive out.   Sheldon was a kind and great man, always so welcoming, and always was such a great time when we were all together.
Our thoughts and sincerest condolences are with you all during this difficult time.   Dad  and us were always excited to get to Summerland and see all the family but one of his favourite places and couldn't wait to get there was yours and Sheldon's home.
Take care of yourselves and each other.  Much love from Sharon, Ryan, Chris, Madi, Dad (Harvey)
