Shirley "Anne" MacWilliam Obituary

Anne MacWilliam (nee Clements) 1944-2019

Anne passed away peacefully August 5, 2019, in Penticton Regional Hospital after a brief illness.

She will be dearly missed by her loving partner of 30 years, John Gibbon. She is survived by her daughters, Heather MacWilliam (Chris Richardson) and Karen MacWilliam (Glenn Howe) and her grandchildren Jennifer Peverelle and Scott Peverelle.

Anne was the only child of Ab and Alice Clements of Vancouver.  She was a long-time South Vancouver resident and proud graduate of John Oliver High School, where she excelled in sports and academics.  She was the editor of the school paper and was a provincially ranked track and field sprinter. She met her first husband Bruce MacWilliam, while at high school.  They were married in 1962 and became young parents to two daughters.

Anne continued to enjoy a wide variety of sports, including golf, tennis, softball, bowling, badminton, biking, and walking, throughout her life.  Although she was not able to continue playing sports for the last few years of her life, Anne was a passionate fan of tennis, golf, hockey and any international event where she could cheer for Canada.  She was the life of any party, and enjoyed many social events with a wide network of friends, new and old, in both Vancouver and Osoyoos.

She met her partner John in 1988 and they retired to Osoyoos, B.C. in 1997.  They enjoyed travel and golf, watching and discussing news and sports, working in the garden, and a happy retirement together.  She was especially proud of their lakefront home and garden and she enjoyed making and drinking her own homemade wine.

Despite being diagnosed with breast cancer in 1999, and other more recent health challenges, Anne was a fighter, able to battle back and move forward with strength, tenacity, humour, and optimism.

There will be no service, by request.  Please raise a glass to her, in celebration of a life well lived.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
