Walter Wyslouzil Obituary

Walter Wyslouzil, 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a long illness on May 6th, 2023. He was born on March 4, 1939, in Innsbruck, Austria and at the age of 13, immigrated to Canada with his family. Relocated in Ottawa, he met his beloved wife Lorna and together, they would celebrate 60 wonderful years together as husband and wife.

Predeceased by his brothers Edmond and Hansel and survived by Dagobert (Lore), Walter leaves behind his children Linda (Rick Closs) and Derek as well as grandchildren Amber (Nick), Scott, and Josie and great-grandchildren Noah, Amaya, Zane, Eli, and Felix.

Graduating from the first ever Electrical Engineering class Carleton University, Walter received the Governor General Medal of highest academic standing. He then began his career at the National Research Council where he would spend 26 years. In 1987 Walter and Lorna relocated to Penticton, British Columbia and he worked for the Dominion Radio Astrological Observatory for over 10 years before he retired.

Walter thoroughly and humbly enjoyed his years of retirement. Travelling the world, being an avid skier, sailing, scuba diving, golfing, biking, hiking, Walter loved the outdoors and all aspects of wildlife. Volunteering his time to many committees over the years and being president of the Sunrise Rotary Club, his impeccable attention to detail and witty sense of humour were enjoyed by all.

Walter will be remembered for being kind, generous, non-judgemental, passive, and incredibly kind to everyone he met. Being in his presence was always a joy.

Our heartfelt thanks go to the staff at Trinity Care Centre for their compassion and high level of care given to Walter over the last number of months. We also thank dr. Richard Tatham for his diligent oversight of Walter’s care and his exceptional consideration to our family as we walked this journey. There will be a small family service held.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
