William Gillison Obituary

William (Bill) Gillison,75, of Penticton, BC, passed away peacefully with family at his side on Nov 19, 2018.  Bill was born in Birkenhead, England on March 4, 1943 to John and Nellie (Brown) Gillison.

Bill was married to Shirley (Goulden) Gillison on November 22, 1968 and they were married for 50 years.

He was in the Canadian Naval Forces for 22 years and retired with the rank of Petty Officer 2nd class. He enjoyed his years at sea where he got to travel to so many different countries. He would bring unique items home to share the adventures of his travels with his family. Bill sailed on the HMCS Provider,the HMCS Cape Scott, the HMCS Nipigon and the HMCS Saguenay. He and his family were stationed in CFB Halifax,NS, CFB Downsview,Ont, & CFB Vancouver, BC.  After leaving the Canadian Armed Forces Bill worked in an electrical contracting company and then in the security department of a chemical plant. He and Shirley then retired to the beautiful Okanagan in BC.

Bill was an avid reader of many subjects with his favorite being history. He enjoyed music, building model sailing ships, curling, & gardening. He was a fan of many sports including boxing, soccer, horse racing, hockey, football & curling.

Bill is survived by his spouse Shirley, his five children Chet, Tal, Tracy, Tanya & Trena, his 16 grandchildren & 6 great grandchildren, his brother John Gillison, his sister Dorothy Hill and several nieces and nephews. Bill was always very protective and proud of his wife & family.  He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembed by those he has left behind.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Lloyd Westby for the care, counsel, and compassion he had provided to Bill over these many years. Also the family wishes to thank the ICU staff at Penticton region hospital for the care and compassion they provided to Bill and his family in his final days. 

No service by request. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to a children's charity of your choice.
